2009 USATF NATIONAL JUNIOR OLYMPIC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
Congratulations Connor Pierson, Kayla Pile, and Jordan Testerman
All three athletes, Connor, Kayla, and Jordan seemed to have a fantastic experience.
Connor started the day off for the Time Machine after an hour weather delay to allow the staff to plow the course the best they could to alleviate some of the 6-8 inches of snow that fell the night before and allow for parents and athletes more time to enter the park.
Connor covered the course in 12:40 in heavy ice conditions for 87th place in his 1st National Championships with a smile on his face. Connor gave a great effort in those conditions.
Kayla was next up and handled the course in the snow in 12:47 for 82nd place in her 1st National Championship event. Kayla beat 146 other top national qualifying athletes in her effort which is just an outstanding performance to say the least.
Jordan got to run in his 5th National Championships in a little heavier snow, which I am not sure if it slowed him down or sped him up since the new snow may have made the course a little less slick. His race started at about 12:30 in the afternoon and he too turned in a fine performance grabbing 80th place out of 233 of those who finished
the race. His time was 11:49.
The kids also played around in the snow (of course) on the trip, some went to Circus Circus to “party” (Alec’s term, not mine), and some went to the Opening Ceremonies the night before.
Overall, it was a great showing by the Time Machine. The athletes should be very proud of themselves as I am sure we all are of them. I know they will remember this trip for a long time.
Way to go Time Machine! We are proud of you!
